The Cat in the Hat was written by Theodor Geisel ( also known as Dr Seuss)
It’s a story about a mischievous cat who enters the home of two young children while their mother is away. The cat is instantly recognizable in his tall red and white striped hat, large bow tie and white gloves.
What ensues can only be described as chaos. at one point he balances a teacup, milk, a cake, some books, the Fish, a rake, a toy boat, a toy man, a red fan, and his umbrella while he’s on a ball to the chagrin of the goldfish, all in an attempt to amuse the children.
He is joined by two other rather odd creatures named thing one and thing two who get into all sorts of trouble on their own. In the end Sally and her brother capture thing one and thing two in a net and finally bring the Cat in the Hat under control as he cleans up the house and leaves just as he mother comes home.
The Cat in the Hat is a very popular and classic childrens story and a very popular choice for a Halloween costume. And not just for children. Many men also dress up as the Cat in the Hat on Halloween Sometimes as part of a theme with gorgeous female cats and thing one and thing two.
